Mothers Union of the Anglican Church of Melanesia ended their week-long 13th general meeting in Honiara last Saturday with a display of arts and crafts.
The event was attended by provincial mothers unions as well as reps from Vanuatu and New Caledonia.

The 13th general meeting was attended by provincial leaders with other head representatives from Vanuatu and New Caledonia.
Mothers Union from Hanuato’o Diocese of Makira-Ulawa stole and arts and crafts display with their wide variety of products such as dyed lavalavas and other crafts.
They were judged the best of the many displays showcased yesterday.
Their president Edna Sitai said their display was judged the best because of the variety of products they showcased as well as the mixture of cultural and modern products.
“In order to maintain our Makira culture in this day and age, we have to strike the balance between the two,” she said.
“So what you see here is a mixture of products featuring both modern and cultural designs.
“Some of the products are cultural in nature but they are made of modern materials.”
Edith Koete, outgoing president of the Mothers Union, reminded mothers to return to their churches and share the skills and knowledge they’ve learned during the week.
She added mothers need to reflect on the work of the organisation and address issues that need to be attended to.
During the week, participants looked at the Strategic Plan for 2015-2017.
The meeting also saw the election of Mary Vunagi, wife of the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Melanesia, elected the new president of the Mothers Union.
