THE ANZ school tennis championship is set to kick off starting next week.
This was confirmed by the Solomon Islands Tennis Federation’s (SITF) Development Officer, Johnson Taliki on Wednesday.
The championship will be hosted in three provinces namely, Honiara, Auki in Malaita and Gizo, Western province.
Taliki revealed Honiara and Auki will kick off their competitions simultaneously starting on Monday next week while Western province will kick off their competition in a fortnight.
The competition mainly targets kids from three age categories, the U10, U12 and U14 which are mainly primary school students.
The federation will use the competition to select young talents who will represent the country in upcoming regional competitions abroad.
Selected players will represent the country in the TVL tennis competition in Vanuatu in December.
It will then lead to selection for players to represent the country in the West Pacific Regional championship next year.
It is from this championship tht players will have the chance to get scholarship depending on their performance.
The SITF president, Joel Benjamin said the federation is looking forward to selecting a few more provincial potential players to be part of the team to Vanuatu.
Last year some students from the Western province were the first to be part of any regional outing organized by the SITF.
The deadline for registration and all entries is tomorrow Friday, September 19.
All schools that are yet to register and hand in their entries are urged to do so in time in order to complete the competition draw by weekend.
Meanwhile the SITF and intending schools thanked the ANZ Bank for its continuous support of sponsorship towards the event.
