VILLAGERS from Fiu, Central Kwara’ae shared the joy of sports during Christmas.
Their games ended successfully last Sunday with presentation of prizes to winning teams.
Chairman of the organising committee John Mark Male said sport is proving to be a very successful contribution to reducing anti-social behaviours in the communities.
“We started our sporting activities on December 26 and concluded the program on January 4.
“The activities truly engaged young people and unite villagers.”
He said he witnessed a huge change in the community compared to the past.
“In the past, youths involved a lot in alcohol related activities. The organised programmes really bring youths together to enjoy sports.
“The good thing was members of the community all show support and interest.”
He said the sports played during their games included soccer, netball, volleyball, kids’ fun games, tag of war, canoe racing, coconut husking, and Futsal.”
