HEAD of Honiara City Council’s Law Enforcement Division Robert Madeo has warned the public to keep away from the Kolaridge cemetery.
Mr Madeo said it has been a practice now that people are using the cemetery area to consume alcohol, sell betel nuts and do other business activities.
“That area should be respected because it is the home of those who were called to rest. It must be treated as a sacred place.”
He said the law enforcement division officers will soon extend their work to monitor the cemetery area.
“We will be taking strict measures in ensuring the cemetery is not treated as a public area.
“I would like to warn the public that the HCC cemetery by-law caters for the issue at hand, therefore it would be illegal to treat the cemetery as a public place.
“I would also like to remind those who have erected market stalls along the cemetery area to remove them to avoid any force removal from my officers.
Mr Madeo said their operations will cover the cemetery area this year therefore people must be forewarned.
