The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE) will run preparatory courses for students who will be sitting for the Cambridge Advanced Examination (CAE).
This following the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) by USP’s Vice-President Administration Dr.Dilawar Grewal on 11 December 2014 as Acting VC, which was then posted to Cambridge English.
The presentation was done by Ms Jan Smith, Director of Cambridge Examination (Fiji) Limited at the Pacific TAFE on 4 February, 2015.
“The most widely recognised international English language tests in the world will soon be available in Fiji,” said Mrs Smith.
These examinations are being made available to Fijians through a partnership between the USP and Cambridge Examinations (Fiji) Ltd.
Under this agreement, USP will deliver preparation courses and Cambridge Examinations (Fiji) will administer the examinations.
Building from primary English to University entrance level Cambridge English Language Assessment’s suite of tests is recognised by more than 3000 institutions worldwide including universities, international companies, professional associations and government departments, including for migration.
For the first time, the Cambridge Advanced Examination (CAE) will offer for those considering working or studying overseas or entering a profession such as accounting (CAE is recognised by the major accounting associations).
This will also give Fijians the opportunity to compete on the world stage in the global context using a universally recognisable English qualification. CAE is recognised by Australians for student and other visas.
Director of Pacific TAFE Mr. Hasmukh Lal said he is very encouraged with the opportunity given and the confidence to deliver preparatory courses at an international standard.
Pacific TAFE will use two language teachers who will undergo capacity building training with an expert in Cambridge Examination before the delivery.
Mr.Lal said Cambridge exams will be offered at the Laucala Campus initially and will be offered later at USP’s regional campuses.
