THE Solomon Voices Choir (S.V) has reached a milestone yesterday, when it awarded two of its member’s, George Clyde, a form seven student at St. Nicholas High School and Rudy Suia, a form 6 student at the University of the South Pacific, Honiara Campus, the Solomon Voices High School Scholarship Award.
Solomon Voices was formed in mid-2013, after performing for the 2013 Solomon Islands Business Excellence Award (SIBEA), under the leadership of well-known Pacific Choir Master, Igelese Ete of Samoa, and his assistant Jolame Cagi of Fiji.
Since then, the group has been performing at several big events such as the 2013 Miss Solomon Islands Pageant and 2013 Miss South Pacific Pageant Show, SIBEA 2014, the University of the South Pacific, Honiara Campus, 2014 Graduation, Diplomatic Functions and other public events.
A spokesperson Rieka Kwalai said it is Solomon Voice’s objective to engage, empower and inspire people throughout the Solomon Islands, through peace-building programs in the form of music, as well as to promote and encourage the realisation of the musical talents of young people across the Solomon Islands.
“It is in achieving its objectives that Solomon Voices is offering scholarships for its High School members in the hope of motivating them and encouraging them to achieve their dreams,” Ms Kwalai said.
She said the scholarship award will cover mainly the beneficiary’s tuition fees for a year, subject to their grades per semester.
“Solomon Voices hopes to provide more high school scholarships in the coming years and also hopes to one day extend its scholarship assistance to its members who are in the tertiary level.
“A big thank you goes out to the Solomon Voice committee for their continuous support and commitment in getting this scholarship programme under way, the Solomon Telekom and all other companies that have supported and funded the first 2014 High School Choral fest in Honiara, which involved Solomon Voices, and to Miss Zillah Douglas of Breakwater Café and her family, for kindly supporting the group in raising funds to making this programme possible.”
