THE regional eye care center built at the National Referral Hospital car park will open later next month.
The hospital’s acting chief executive officer (CEO) Dr Rodger Maraka said, the building is now in its final stage.
“Most of the external work has been done with the final work now on electrical wiring,” Dr Maraka said.
He said, most equipment in the old eye clinic will be shifted to the new building before it is officially opened for services.
Dr Maraka said, the clinic is purposely to serve people with eye problem.
The $3.8 million New Zealand funded facility will be an eye care centre for the Pacific region.
It would help bring back services to the country rather than sending out eye trainers to health institute in other countries.
He said these would help bring back eye doctors and nurses to be trained here rather than abroad.
Dr Maraka urged people to take responsibility and look after the clinic and its facilities so that others will get the same quality service in the future.
