THE Office of the Market Master under the Honiara City Council will kick off a vendors’ inspection at the central market soon.
This is to crack down on resellers who are buying fish and market produces from genuine producers and fishermen and resell them.
Market Master Saxon Ofata highlighted this on Monday when officials from the City Council met with a delegation from the Salo Fishing Village market.
The meeting was aimed at seeking solutions to the current issues affecting the Fishing Village market.
Mr Ofata said, his officials will start identifying vendors who continue to buy from market producers and then resell them at a much higher price.
“It has come to our attention and even some market vendors have verbally informed us that there are some people using the market without getting any produce from the villages to be sold at the market. They are only buying from some vendors and resell them.”
The Market Master said, because of such claims, his team will monitor the situation and conduct inspections at the market from time to time.
He said, only genuine market producers who brought the produce from the villages will be allowed to sell at the market.
The Market boss appeals to all market vendors especially the fishing vendors to report anyone is doing such things.
