Families who have lost their loved ones during the April flash flood in Honiara last year organised a commemoration service last Sunday to remember those who were died.
The remembrance ceremony was took place at the Saint Baptism Church at April Valley in East Honiara. An Anglican Priest officiated at the solemn occasion.
Clera Waisiwa who lost her family members during the tragic flood told the Solomon Star yesterday said, the remembrance ceremony was organised by the April Valley community to remember those were died during the April flooding strategy.
“The remembrance ceremony was organised by everyone living in the valley who lost their individual family members during the flooding last year.”
“The entire community turned up for the event.”
She said the ceremony yesterday was very touching and emotional.
“The occasion was a moving and touching one for all of us who assemble at the Church compound to remember those loved ones whom we lost. There were tears be shed by most of us as victims and survivor of the flood.
“Some of us lost our mothers and children so it was a very emotional moment for any of us.”
During the occasion candles were placed on bamboo poles representing those who have died.
There was laying of wreath as a show of respect.
She however thanked the Solomon Island Government (SIG), non-government organisations (NGO), aid donors and individuals that supported them in their recovery process.
