THE Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Solomon Islands has donated two 5000 litre water tanks to Leo Creek community in East Honiara recently.
The donation was received by church member Clifton Maju on behalf of the community.
Self- Reliance Centre Coordinator of the church David Nish said Leo Creek community was one of the communities that will benefit from the project.
“There are other communities that have no access to water such as Burns Creek, White River and others.
“There are 30 more water tanks that will be distributed as part of this project,” Mr Nish said.
He said the church’s humanitarian work aims to relieve those who have been denied access to clean drinking and cooking water.
“The communal spirit and efforts to access clean water has been evident when many members of these households volunteer to carry cement, gravel, dig foundations etc.”
He said the tanks should be used by all members of the communities alike regardless of religion.
Mr Nish added that looking after the water tanks is paramount in order for the help to continue to sustain people in a long run.
Mr Clifton Maju and Charles Maggie on behalf of the community acknowledged the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day-Saint for the help.
“We’ve been experiencing problem with water for years now therefore such help will go a long way in reducing the difficulty in accessing safe drinking water.
They urged community members to take extra care of the water tanks.
