Guadalcanal Provincial Government’s (GPG) initiative to form a provincial soccer team in the prestigious semi- professional league, the S’ league, has taken shape with an interim committee formed to assist the Guadalcanal Football Association (GFA).
The interim committee was formed mid this week following a meeting attended by avid Guadalcanal soccer supporters and members of the GFA.
The newly appointed interim committee comprised of the following: Chairman and current president of GFA- Eddie Marahare, vice chairman- John Stewart, secretary- Alfred Kiva, ordinary members- Tim Manea, Desmond Sese and Allan Tarohania (Public Relations Officer).
Prior to the formation of the committee, GPG’s representative and Deputy Premier Rolland Seleso, has reassured all who present at the meeting that province is committed to ensure a team participates in the S’ league.
Seleso revealed that province’s commitment is demonstrated in the budget allocation and support purposely for the development of soccer in the province’s 2015 budget.
Seleso added that he is encouraged to see a good number of people have turned up for the meeting.
He said, the good turn- out demonstrated the passion and yearning to establish a first- ever Guadalcanal team to participate in the S’ league.
The Deputy Premier also stated that the meeting paves a starting point of the process in forming the Guadalcanal team.
Meanwhile, the meeting has resolved that the interim committee will work alongside the GFA to make a submission to the S’ league board before the end of this month.
The interim committee’s first meeting was held yesterday to discuss the formulation of the submission.
