The Solomon Islands triathlon federation yesterday announced its final squad for the Pacific Games in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
A total of seven athletes have been selected to make up squad after a series of tests. A majority of them are new comers to represent the country at this top regional event.
The successful athletes are Andriana Tukuvia, Mary Marasina, Melissa Bereta for the women and Jad Nalo, Borris Teddy and Rocky Donald for the men.
Former triathlon champion, Stanley Ofasisili is on reserve.
According to head coach Nathan Thompson the squad is the youngest triathlon squad to ever represent the country at any Pacific Games.
“The selection of the six athletes was done following a series of three triathlon championship competitions held in the past two months.”
Throughout the series of champions until the final selection race points were added and the final six athletes were selected, the top three from each category.
The athletes are currently on a week-long training camp conducted by High Performance Triathlon trainer and coach, Peter Clifford from Australia.
Solomon Triathlon believes that with Clifford’s support and the strong commitment of the athletes, they will sure make the country proud in the coming Games in Papua New Guinea.
