TEAM manager for the Solomon Islands men’s Basketball squad, Eric Chow has called on responsible authorities within the Honiara City Council to do some repair on the Multipurpose Hall playing court.
Chow made the call following observations that the poor state of the court has been disturbing at times and there are fears athletes training for the Pacific Games might hurt themselves during their training sessions.
There are cracks on the floor and one end of the court has dropped making it dangerous for players to run on.
“It’s a bit dangerous for players to play on such surface.
“Responsible authorities must act quickly before athletes get injured which will then have an impact on their preparations for the pacific Games.
“It’s for the good of everyone, any other sports who will also be using the playing court.
The Solomon Islands basketball squad is preparing for a friendly match against one of PNG’s top basketball teams at the end of the month and with such sate of the playing court, it will not be very good.
“If we are to host the PNG basketball team then I suggest the floor surface be renovated or we cannot host them,” he said.
Attempts to get comments from the responsible authorities were unsuccessful.
