TOURISM operators in Takwa in North Malaita have requested Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau (SIVB) to send in some overseas travel writers to their areas to write about culture and historical sites.
Vice chairmen of the newly formed Lau/Asifola Lagoons Tourism Association (LALTL) and owner of MACs accommodation Lesley Lone highlighted this during a visit by a delegation from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism(MCT), SIVB and Australian government last week.
Mr Lone said that North Malaita have some very diverse culture and rare products that needs to be promoted and exposed internationally.
He told the high level delegation that North Malaita have some very unusual undeliverable products.
“North Malaita has a number of rare products which needs to be promoted thats why we ask SIVB to send us some travel writers to promote them.”
He highlighted, the culture, the inland waterfall, white sandy beaches which holds the potential for tourism attraction.
Director of Tourism Barney Sivoro in his response thanked Mr Lone for sharing his concern.
“We have taken note of all what you have said and will discuss it in our meeting with SIVB.”
SIVB board chairmen Wilson Ne’e also thanked Takwa community to be part in the tourism industry.
“SIVB will discuss what you have mentioned about the travel writer and will let you know about it later,” Mr Ne’e said.
