THE country’s only male who won gold medal so far at the Pacific Games in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (PNG) has acknowledged God for the victory while dedicating his win to April 2014 flood victims.
Rosefelo Siosi on Tuesday won the 10,000 meters race and wanted to dedicate his achievement for the innocent lives lost in the April flood and the families who are affected by the flood.
He said, he thanked God for his achievement and wanted to dedicate his achievement to fellow innocent Solomon Islanders who lost their lives during the April flood last year.
“I want to dedicate my first gold medal in the Pacific Games for the victims of the April flood, my family, my hard working coaches, my friends and loved ones and the hard working people of Solomon Islands,” he said.
He also thanked his coach in Melbourne during his training there.
Siosi who could not hold back his emotions after finishing well ahead of his opponents shouted with great emotion and joy in front of the crowd and media during this interview.
Siosi also spoke about the emotion he felt before hitting the track saying he felt a special emotion running through his nerves after he said his final pray before the kick off.
“As I stand with my opponents at the starting line, I said my final pray and after I said, amen I can feel tears filling my eyes, this is first time I cried before my race,” the humbly spoken Siosi said.
“I felt really emotional as I completed the first lap with tears in my eyes and that just gave me extra strength and courage to complete the race ahead of everyone else,” he said.
Mr. Siosi will compete again in the men’s 5000 meters this afternoon in Port Moresby for a chance to added one more medal to his name.
