A NEW portable sawmilling is being introduced in Honiara on Wednesday by its owner who is currently here to train locals how to handle the portable saw mill.
Called “Junior Peterson” which in short ‘JP portable sawmill’, it is original from New Zealand.
The sawmill was first introduced in Solomon Islands few years ago and now the owner of JP portable sawmill who is partnering with a local Solomon Islander are reviving the portable sawmill for people in the country.
Yesterday the owner of JP portable sawmill provided training for locals how to handle and operate the portable sawmilling.
The training was held at the XJ6 hardware area at Ranadi yesterday and will end this weekend.
Grandy Sivoro, supervisor for the JP portable sawmill told the Solomon Star yesterday afternoon said, this portable sawmill is a new portable sawmill introduced in Solomon Islands.
“This sawmill was introduced in Solomon Islands few years ago and but was not popular amongst the locals.
“But now we are reviving it so that local people in the country who wants to carryout sustainable forestry logging in their area can use it,” Mr Sivoro said.
This portable sawmill is a movable sawmill and easy for people to carry with them anywhere up the hills and down the valley to mill timber.
“JP portable sawmill can be used to do cut any sized timbers and you can mill 6 logs in a day just by 4.5liters of petrol.
“And if your petrol is empty the portable has an internal battery that can produce energy for the mill engine without petrol to continue cutting timber which is best and good for people in rural areas who face financial problem to pay for petrol,” Mr Sivoro said.
Meanwhile Mr Sivoro urged people who wants to know more about this JP portable sawmill to visit them at XJ6 hardware where the demonstration of the portable sawmill is being held this morning and tomorrow.
