THE Member of Parliament (MP) for Gizo/Kolombangara and Minister for Women, Youth, Children, and Family Affairs will be presenting to cabinet a women’s framework.
It is called Solomon Islands National Strategy for the Economic Empowerment of Women and Girls.
Mr Tanagada highlighted this when speaking at the opening of the West Are’are Rokotanikeni Association (WARA) on Tuesday at the KG Sixth School hall.
“One of the most rewarding aspects of my role as Minister for Women is that in the next few days, I will be able to present to Cabinet a Solomon Islands National Strategy for the Economic Empowerment of Women and Girls.
“This framework will be the first ever framework that the Solomon Islands Government will have produced and builds on the Democratic Coalition for Change Government’s (DCCG) policy statement objectives to ‘encourage gender balance” as well as to “generate jobs and increase employment opportunities for the growing population and achieve high economic growth, wealth and social wellbeing for all Solomon Islanders’,” the Minister said
He added that the strategy was developed through a consultative process with key partners and stakeholders which also includes the West Are’Are Rokotanikeni Association.
He also said that the creation of the historic and new strategy is planned and timely.
“Making this strategy available is strategic and timely.
“It shows commitment by government and also timely as there will now be a fair improvement in the enabling environment giving women and girls the added advantage of operating in a setting that is conducive to realizing their economic interests.
“Particularly for women’s savings clubs and associations such as West Are’are Rokotanikeni Association,” Mr Tanagada said.
