Following the last meeting by the Malaita 2nd appointed day celebration committee on Monday, a number of sports have been confirmed for the upcoming celebrations.
Eddie Omokirio Sports coordinator of the Malaita provincial sports division confirmed that the sports event to be staged are rugby 7’s, netball and half marathon (21km).
“Only soccer is postponed till 2nd week October.”
He said, provincial secretary and chairman had advised the committee that they need to wait for October because the current balance is not enough to cater for the sports budget and to give time for ward members to prepare their teams with the changes.
However, the sub-committee for sports in the second appointed day celebration committee, may allow the football executive to organise a small soccer competition just to fill in for the time.
Confirmation of this small competition will be announced this evening this after the second planned meeting.
“The sub-committee for sports apologises for the inconvenience caused by the postponement of soccer.”
