The Honiara Amateur Boxing Association (HABA) has been formed following a meeting last week in Honiara.
Seven members form this new association and is headed by newly elected president John Pririfoti and vice president Frank Riqa.
The move to form the HABA was initiated by the Honiara based boxing club, the Solomatic Boxing club.
The club made a call to other boxing associations and the Solomon Islands Amateur Boxing Federation (SIABF) who came together to elect the leaders of the HABA.
It is anticipated that the formation of the HABA will culminate in the eventual re-establishment of the Solomon Islands Amateur Boxing federation (SIABF).
Now that the HABA is formed all three active boxing clubs in Honiara will benefit from competitions the association will organize, one thing the clubs missed out on over the past years.
A statement from the Solomatic boxing club stated that boxing is a sport that has brought colorful medals to the country since 1981 but for the last decade it has not been active to the detriment of the sport.
Most boxing associations in Honiara and in the provinces who are still active despite inactive SIABF aims to resurrect the federation up and running and having formed this new association is one step to reviving the federation.
