Dear Editor – Interesting to note the call from the WUSI General Secretary on the government to deport SIPA’s CEO, Mr Yow.
It seems to me that Mr Kagovai is good at tearing down rather than building up.
His now defunct SINUW has closed down RIPEL and now he is on a mission to do the same with SIPA and who knows how many more to come later.
I read in this paper some time ago, Mr Leni testifying to the inappropriate financial dealings and embezzlement that’s been going on in the Solomon Islands Port’s Authority for far too long.
Now I’m not naive as well as you are when it comes to seeing and witnessing such corrupt practices occurring in our State Owned Enterprises and even in the government ministries.
Therefore, if someone wants to expose our failures; we would do all we could to get rid of such person/s. It is a natural reaction when we are guilty. It all started from our first two dear parents in that garden.
It looks as though some people do not want to move away from their comfort zones even if it means a disaster to a system.
But if we are to improve the Solomon Islands Ports Authority, then let us allow Mr Yow to do his work till his contract expires and then we reassess whether we have achieved something or not.
Because to deport him would not be in the best interests of that statutory body as well as to the nation as a whole. Because it would seem to me that you would rather keep the rotting eggs in the bag then to get rid of them.
If Singapore could become one of the financial hubs of Asia today (an island nation with no raw materials), then it would be sensible to let Mr Yow do what makes Singapore what it is today.
Singapore’s main income besides other services industries comes from its Ports facilities which are the best in the world.
Therefore, I can also call on the government to not deport Mr. Yow but rather to let him implement what he is here for.
