Western netball association (WNA) is planning to organise a netball competition next month to select a squad for the upcoming end year national netball championship in Noro.
Rose Simbe, president of the netball association for the province in a statement yesterday announced the date for the event as from the 28th September to 2nd October 2015.
Action of all matches will be played at the Gizo netball stadium, she said.
“During this competition, we will select a squad to represent Western Province at the upcoming Our Telekom national championship to be held in Noro on the 30th November to 4th December 2015,” the association said in the statement.
She added Western netball association competition will feature two highlights during the competition:
1. WNA will host this year’s sport inclusively for the first time in history!
The association has invited the West Centre a school for children with special needs in Gizo. They will be the curtain raisers after the official opening ceremony before the games kicks off!
2. Also WNA will honour Western province veteran players for the last 10 or so years. Their interest in this particular game has taken us this far. We thought it is only fitting to honour them before the games as well.
Simbe said, all netball players in and around Western province are welcome to participate.
“Those from other islands please meet your own expenses to Gizo. Due to financial difficulties, WNA will only award cash prizes to winners.”
System of game to be played will be decided after receiving and registering the teams. Registration fee is $50 per team.
