With the AFL season coming to a close, Solomon Islands AFL (SIAFL) has begun preparations for its annual ‘Big Meat Pie’ which will be hosted at Tenaru secondary school on Saturday the 26th of September 2015.
A statement from SIAFL said that….
“Returning to its traditional home, the SIAFL is looking to expand the roots of AFL in the country by hosting what is promised to be one of the most impressive Big Meat Pie’s to date.
“The Big Meat Pie, which pits the national Solomon Islands AFL team against the Barbarians, a team of willing expats, is the biggest fundraiser for the SIAFL, and allows the sport to continue running programs in schools and communities.”
Star Sports was informed that the day which consists of entertaining contest, a barbeque, music, and promises will be a great day out.
The SIAFL aims to promote not only the sport of AFL, but also gives an opportunity to spread healthy messages about nutrition, exercise, and the value of team spirit and sportsmanship.
The fundraising from the day allows these programs to continue, by providing resources and staff to those would want to experience AFL first hand.
However, training and scratch matches will continue in preparation for the national team at 4:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, at KG Oval.
The statement added that….“If you would like to take part in the Big Meat Pie or support SIAFL in any capacity, such as sponsorships, umpiring, or playing, or have any general inquiries, contact Job Vulita on 7444878.”
