A Korean consultancy group has spent the past few days in the country on a fact-finding mission to set up businesses here.
The three member delegation came on behalf of potential investors who are interested in setting up businesses here. They met with senior Government officials earlier this week.
The group consists of business executives Hong Sa Myung, Chairman of Seongho Creativity Centre, and Park Chan Dong, Chairman of KDS Group of Companies and Ms. Park Mee Nah, Organizing Secretary of the delegation.
The visit was to collect appropriate information to help them inform potential investors and companies that Solomon Islands is a very safe country to do business.
The visit was arranged by His Excellency the Solomon Islands Ambassador to Malaysia, Mr. Victor Ngele through the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (OPMC).
Policy Secretary of the Productive Sector Office, Gabriel Victor Titili, who facilitated the visit said, the main areas of interest by the Korean Consultancy Group are in sea food processing, deep sea fishing, shipbuilding & repair, wood-related industries and tourism.
This was the first exploratory visit by the Group and they are very keen to listen and observe to learn more about Solomon Islands and how they can assist in bringing investment into Solomon Islands.
According to Mr Park Chan Dong, their strength is in small and medium enterprises (SME) and they are looking for opportunities to support entrepreneurs in Solomon Islands by way of Technological and Expert Advice. They are also keen to encourage SMEs in South Korea to expand their operations to Solomon Islands.
Mr. Titili assured the delegation that the DCC Government is pleased with the visit and will ensure this initial scouting mission will lead to a more tangible business relationship between local SME operators and their potential South Korean partners.
The Korean Delegation also assured the Government that a second and a much larger delegation will visit Solomon Islands as a follow up visit in mid-September this year.
The group also proposed a Joint Summit Between their Group and the Solomon Islands to be hosted by in Seoul, South Korea sometime in October 2015.
The group left on Thursday and have pledged their support to a stronger and sustainable relationship between South Korea and Solomon Islands.
