The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) management has supported the institution’s boxing club with the donation of boxing gloves.
This was part of encouraging sports and social activities for the students with in the university.
SINU boxing club was established in June as part of engaging students who are interested in this sport besides academic learning.
The University’s sports coordinator Jimmy Luitolo said, the University is proud to establish a boxing club under the banner of SINU to equip the student not only academic side but social as well.
The club has former and current students joining it.
As part of boosting the club new boxing gloves were handed over to the boxing club by the University’s finance director Walter Maesugea yesterday.
Maesugea said the new equipment is to help kick start the members while waiting for more equipment to arrive next week.
“The University is happy to assist not only the boxing club but other sporting programs within the university. “
He said, more boxing equipment worth $5000 will arrive next week.
The finance director added the future vision of the club is to develop and train good fighters in the future.
The club plans to work closely with the boxing federation to improve boxing in the country.
SINU boxing club head coach and former boxer John Utukana acknowledged SINU management for the support and in recognizing the sport.
He encouraged interested female and male students who want to take up boxing to join the club.
