Solomon Islands female basketball player Maya Van Den Heever has shined out in the final of the Triple Threat Western Regional Championship in United State held from July 27-30.
Ms Maya helped propelled her team Orange County Elite into the grand final but was unfortunate to win the title.
Her side went down narrowly with 65-62 in the final 30 seconds.
Her father John Van Heever told Star Sport that Maya being the point guard for her team helped her side to win the Oca pool and qualified for the grand finale against winner of Dolphin pool.
He said Maya stood out for her team in the grand final but was just unfortunate to get the title with a close defeat 65-62.
This is quite a big compliment for Solomon Islands players helping a team to reach the final.
He hopes that Maya talent could be an inspiration for players in the future and the government to promote alternative talents for Solomon Islands players.
Maya and her twin sister who also played in the College high school basketball in the States are currently taking a break in Honiara and will return to US for the kick off of the high schools and the final basketball session on November to March 2016.
Both sisters were key figures in the Solomon Islands campaign at the recent Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea.
Despite not making it into the finals, they have been a role model and a good example to the national women squad as well as many young female talents in the country.
