As preparations for the much anticipated Big Meat Pie are gearing up, expats have laid down the challenge to the National team, with strong showings at training in the last few weeks.
A statement from the SIAFL stressed although Peter Nuku and Francis Ramo have been leading the way with impressive efforts at KG Oval on Tuesdays and Thursdays, increasing interest places the expats in good stead, with impressive participation numbers.
“It is shaping up for what should be a great Big Meat Pie clash on Saturday the 26th of September at St. Josephs, Tenaru,’’ the statement said.
The statement added, the two leading teams in Honiara, the White River Demons and the Central Coast Eagles, have the players to challenge the Barbarians, being the expat team, and must lift in order to prepare for the National team, which will tour Malaita towards the end of the year.
“SIAFL has also been busy, with their school programs continuing. The organization also had the joy of participating in the Honiara Disability Inclusive Sport and Fun Day, with participants being able to experience AFL for the first time.
“SIAFL staff were adamant that the pure joy on the participant’s faces was the reason and purpose of sport.”
Meanwhile anyone interested in participating in senior AFL, or the Big Meat Pie, are welcome to KG Oval on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:30.
