Malaitans should stop criticising their government, and should instead work together to develop their province.
Premier Peter Ramohia criticisms levelled at his government are not doing any good for the province in terms of development.
He said many times, the criticisms were baseless and unfair.
“What is required is for everyone from Malaita to stand united and work to together to develop their province,” he told the Sunday Star.
“I want to encourage Malaitans who work in various government departments, private organisations, students and those based overseas to come home and give a hand in developing the province,” he added.
Premier Ramohia appeals to national leaders down to grassroots level to help contribute to develop the province in their field of expertise.
“We Malaitans have the wisdom, knowledge and experience to move the province forward,” he added.
He said people’s knowledge about the environment and its surroundings makes the job of developing their home province easier.
Furthermore, he urged Malaitans to avail their land and resources to be developed for the benefit of everyone.
Premier Ramohia said this can only be done if everyone comes together to build a common understanding that is rooted int their cultural values and norms in order to establish deeper relationship bonds binding everyone in the province, the nation and the world.
At the same time he urged Malaitans engaged in public sector development to be more flexible with a mindset and a change in attitude focused on developing their home province.
“Times have changed, so do not compare my executive with past ones since we are a set of different leaders striving to see better reforms to raise the standard of living in our rural communities,” Ramohia said.
“When we understand what happens, we must surrender ourselves as part of the process.
“Therefore, ownership, commitment and sacrifice are vital ingredients to make development happen,” he said.
In any development aspiration, Ramohia said people have to look at a bigger picture beyond the horizon.
“It’s very true people will have different views, few are kind whilst most are selfish which reminds me it all relates to attitude.”
Despite the many challenges facing the province, Ramohia said his government is eager and serious to see government services are delivered to people.
He pointed out that national leaders of Malaita early this year have discussed important issues such as attitude, population, skills, professionalism and accumulative ownership of land and entrepreneurial dominance of Malaitans in this nation.
He said the discussions engaged Malaitan MPs and members of the public, community leaders, professionals and those interested in the development of the province
The leaders shared their ideas and contribute ideologies on how they think and feel should be the best way forward in the development of the province.
