The Solomon Islands national men’s football team’s head coach, Moses Toata says he believes in his players and the process of preparing a team despite the recent 4-1 defeat to Australia’ Sydney FC in their first of s series of friendly matches.
Toata was responding to the many critics the squad received following their defeat to Sydney FC two days ago.
Critics flooded the social website Facebook, many saying the squad is very weak compared to the past squads.
But Toata remains confident they will pick up soon as time goes on.
“I’m happy with the team and I can understand where these criticisms are coming from.
“Any team in the world will need time to build.
“I only call the team at the end of last year and this year we spent at least only two weeks together, even myself I don’t expect any miracle from the boys.
“But I believe we are into the process of preparing a team, it will take time.
“If the critics are talking at the end of a three months period I would agree that something is wrong.
“But for me I believe in the players and I believe in the process,” he said.
Toata added the team is getting better each day.
He said if anyone who understands football, they will know that every process needs time.
“Yes we will get there.
“Remember Rome is not built in one day, do as any process.
“I’m happy with the progress so far and there is still a lot to be done but I hope by May we will be ready to compete,” he said.
Toata stressed people expect so much but they can only do so much in the small time.
He admitted bringing in a squad together is tough especially getting them to play according to his philosophy.
“I know what I’m looking for and I know how to get it, if not I should have never be here in the first place,” he said.
