THE ‘Sponsor One Child’ project orchestrated by the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA has put smiles on the face of students at Ravulomata SDA primary school with 50 new desks in a handing over ceremony last Sunday.
Ravulomata SDA primary is located on the Savo Island, Central Islands province just across Honiara city. It is a newly formed school in the Island.
More than 20 people or sponsors are contributing to the project.
Speaking to the Solomon Star in an interview, project leader minister Jack Laeta said the concept of the project is to do away with the reliance of donors to fund projects in the country.
“Our creativity can make a difference in supporting others. The Sponsor one child project is a model designed where common people can be attracted to contribute in ideas and money to support the needy.
“The main idea here is to shift the mindset of depending on donors to make us self-sufficient,” Minister Laeta said.
He added that, the total cost of the project would be SBD$30, 000 is it wasn’t for the owner of the Joinery Company that did the fine job.
“With the assistance and help of Tome and Sons joinery, the project only cost us SBD$12, 000 as a discount price,” the Minister said.
Mr Laeta wishes to thank the sponsors for giving hands and ideas to make the project a reality, on behalf of the Ravulomata SDA primary.
“It is such model that us Solomon Islanders need to operate on”.
The sponsors were then awarded with certificates of appreciation for being the major contributors to the project through money and idea contributions.
