Dear Editor – The intention here is to put some light and facts to the subject of debate in the past weeks which has attracted confusion from writers to your paper especially in the likes of Charles Kieu who failed miserably to research issues hence injecting rubbish into your readers. This is sad to say but it is reality.
At the outset, let me say here that all those who have contributed to the subject 2016 Scholarship in the similar spirit as Mr Charlie Kieu under the above headline in your Solomon Star No.6123 of Friday 4 March 2016 are totally and strongly refuted.
Charlie Kieu has chosen to generalize the subject without researching the facts of the matter and deciding to rubbish, lay blame and wild allegations of systematic corruption against MPs is uncalled for.
Mr Kieu, if you do not understand the subject matter or bother to know then why spread corruption of lying to the public through the media, if I may ask.
Despite your decision to belittle the MP for West Are Are constituency under the subject matter, let me kindly tell you that you do not have any right whatsoever in doing so.
This is because the wisdom saying of Are ‘are has it that “if you have not been feeding people of West Are ‘are or doing anything for their livelihood” then you do not have any right to talk about West Are ‘are or painted their MP corrupt when you do not have any facts or evidence.
Let me brief you on the Cabinet decisions on 2016 Scholarships as I know and was part of. Your background is this; the Honourable Prime Minister attended the Scholarship Awards in January 2016 and was shocked at the fact that more than 300 students missed out of scholarship despite their grade of GPA 3.0 and above.
This prompts the desire of the DCCG to intervene and help in the situation.
This situation immediately demanded Cabinet papers from the Ministry of Education and Human Resources. Appropriate cabinet papers were submitted to Cabinet and hence approved on 18/1/16 as follows:
– The additional scholarship for students who attained GPA 3.0 and above (or equipment Grades) with admission letters,
– Additional Scholarships which have been requested that have met institutional selection criteria and entry qualifications in the Universities in the countries identified as well as AMA in the Philippines.
Mr Kieu, the above two Cabinet approvals to my believe has allowed West Are ‘are MP to submit any number of students’ applications to NTU.
It was also the understanding in Cabinet that MPs can forward any Solomon Islander students applications to NTU that falls within the above conditions.
I don’t really know which Cabinet conclusion Mr Kieu was commenting on hence misleading and confusion the public.

Minister for Fisheries and Marine Resources
