Dear Editor – As a young Solomon Islander, I am really concerned about the student fare from GPPOL 2 to Honiara.
It already stated in all buses travelling from East Guadalcanal to Honiara that students fare is $10 for one way.
I find particularly appalling that most of the bus conductors tend to ask bigger amount of money from students when travelling in the buses.
Well I was confused because most of the time when I travelled by bus from GPPOL to Honiara, the bus conductor tends to ask me $15 or even $20 for one way travel.
The point here is that, what is the main purpose for you all bus drivers and your conductors from East Guadalcanal met and agree for students fare is only $10 for one way travel.
If that’s the exactly amount you agree for, then you should work on that rather than asking bigger amounts of money from students.
Even worse most of students don’t have much money but they only rely on their parents for bus fare every week especially during schooling time.
And so when bus fare keeps on increasing, you should know that you already contributed in destroying the future of students.
You should know that the future of our country is in the hands of young generation today.
If I were you that corrupt bus conductor, I should have a mindset of helping the young people especially students because you never know that one day when you need much help in any way of your life and surprisingly that particular student you helped in the past will help you.
That the big mistake people should learn.
I remembered in the last few days, I was travelling by bus from GPPOL 2 bus stop to Honiara and gave the amount of $10 for bus fare, suddenly the bus conductor asked another $10 for my fare but I couldn’t respond by giving him what he asked for.
My question is, what is the exact amount for students’ fare you agreed for? And that paper you pasted on your bus that carried the writing “students fare is $10”? Is that for decoration?
It is now apparently clear that bus drivers and your conductors who serve East Guadalcanal travellers you should agree on one particular amount of money for students fare rather than taking fares from students in any way you wish.
