Hana Football Club started the Red Cardim Vaelens program early this week in Honiara.
They started their training program on the topic of family violence which was presented by the community policing team of the RSIPF.
During the training activity which was facilitated by the Community Policing team of the RSIPF, they highlighted some of the key aspect and definitions within the FPA about family violence which seems to be a new concept to some players particularly the young ones.
The community Policing team also highlighted some of the striking reality about the country’s position in terms of rankings in both regional and international standings regarding this issue.
The Solomon Islands is ranked 2nd regionally and 5th on the world stage in terms of domestic violence.
All the players were psyched about presentation of the community policing and are very much thankful for the information being shared with them.
Hana FC is the second club to start the training at their training ground on the issues on Gender Based Violence (GBV).
Hana is one of the four sports clubs earmarked by the Live & Learn Office for the project of Red Cardim Vaelens .
The Red Cardim Vaelens project is a new approach which is being supported and being funded by the DFAT office as a major donor partner and also being supported by Child Fund Australia and is being implemented by the Live & Learn Office here in the Solomon Islands.
Project Manager of the Red Cardim Vaelens Project, Golden Kiloko stated that as role models within the society, it is very fitting that our sportsmen must know firsthand information about this issue to help them become good sportsmen on and off the pitch.
“If we are very good sports men on the pitch, we must also keep that attitude off it as well because, the reputation as sportsmen can be tarnished if we don’t follow the very good principles that can help us be good sportsmen and citizens,” he said.
