THE Diocese of Temotu Electoral Board of the Anglican Church of Melanesia yesterday elected the Reverend Leonard Dawea as the fifth bishop for the Diocese of Temotu.
The meeting, which was preceded by a retreat, was held at Tabalia, the headquarters of the Melanesian Brotherhood, West of Honiara.
Reverend Dawea, 44, succeeded the Most Reverend George Takeli who was enthroned and Installed as the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Melanesia and Bishop of the Diocese of Central Melanesia in April this year.
Reverend Dawea was currently serving as the Diocesan Secretary to the Diocese of Temotu, a post he had held since 2015.
He held a Bachelor of Theology with Honours from the University College of Chester, now Chester University, in the United Kingdom.
Reverend Dawea came from Malubu Village in the Reef Islands, Temotu Province. He was married to Dorah Dawea of Guadalcanal and they had two children.
Prior to joining the Anglican Priesthood, Father Dawea was a member of the Church’s Melanesian Brotherhood for 12 years.
The Archbishop called on all members of the Anglican Church of Melanesia to uphold Reverend Leonard Dawea and his family in their prayers as he prepares to take on this important responsibility in the church.
