Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) and Solomon Games Committee (SGC) are being urged to work together.
A provincial contingent official who wish not to be named made the call on Monday following the sudden cancellation of Solomon Cup.
“I wish to call on SIFF and SGC to put their differences aside and allow the Solomon Cup to be played,’’ the concern official said.
“We’ve been preparing for this tournament since Solomon Cup was confirmed to be staged during Solomon Games.’’
“And all of a sudden the two very important bodies responsible to develop sports just cancel the much anticipated competition with days away from its kick off time.’’
“This is ridiculous,’’ the disappointed official said.
He added our standard of football is declining and in order for to us to improve it we must work together.
“Our soccer will never develop if those heading our responsible offices served their own interest ran than saving national interest,’’ he said.
Meanwhile a statement from SIFF released on Sunday said Solomon Cup football tournament scheduled for this year will not take place.
“This follows unsuccessful negotiations with the Solomon Games Committee to host the event under the 2016 Solomon Games sporting event,’’ SIFF statement said.
It added, the Solomon Cup has been postponed indefinitely until a new date is decided by the SIFF Executive Committee.
The statement further added a football tournament involving the ten provinces shall be held in place of Solomon Cup and run under the 2016 Solomon Games sporting event from July 1- 16.
“In relation to the cancellation of the Solomon Cup, Our Telekom has informed SIFF that it has also withdrawn any funding planned for the hosting of the Solomon Cup this year nor will it fund the football competition that will be run in its place,’’ the statement said.
