The Catholic Teachers Sodality of the Archdiocese of Honiara concluded the one week workshop on YOUCAT and Church Liturgy Music held at Holy Cross on the 20th – 23rd of June.
The two Brothers from USA, Br. David and Br. Robert are the Marianist Brothers who are in the country for the Catholic Church.
They did the workshop for the diocese of Gizo at Choisel, just finished the workshop for Honiara and now they are at the Diocese of Auki for two weeks until July 10th.
This was very much appreciated by the participants and the Catholic teachers. They YOUCAT stands for the Youth Catechism as the young people need to be informed about their faith and as well as advocates for other young people in various local Catholic communities and schools.
The document is specially designed to make it easy for the young people to understand the Catechism of the Catholic Church. This was conducted by Brother David.
The Church music for liturgy was conducted by Bro Robert. Since 2010 the new version of the Mass was published, the Catholic people need to participate actively and understand the changes in some parts of the Eucharist.
Brother Robert also helped the musicians on how to take care of their instruments and what kind of guitar strings for different types of guitars. “Not all guitar strings suit for every guitar.”
The young participants especially the youth made the most of the opportunity to learn and ask many questions regarding music skills from the Brothers.
The end of the workshop was celebrated with the Mass and Bishop John Doanenoel SM was the main celebrant. He also conveyed greetings and heart felt gratitude from Archbishop Adrian Smith SM who is currently away, for conducting this workshop for the teachers and youth.
At the end of the workshop Ms. Modesta Hasiau-Education Secretary for AHEA thanked the Brothers for their expertise on these fields which they are sharing with the teachers and the youth of our country and especially the Catholic Church.
