The June Youth Market, presented by Youth@Work to promote and support young entrepreneurs and showcase the talents of young people is happening from today 29 June- 1 July at the Art Gallery and is set to be bigger and better than the one before.
Young people who have completed Youth@Work’s Young Entrepreneur Program training and who are starting their own businesses will be there selling food, crafts and fashions. Youth@Work will be providing a gaming zone with games such as snooker and table tennis at the three days event.
There will be entertainment from local musicians and bands including Ruff and Bust 20, a member of the now famous 56 Hop Rod and Caroline Koplyn a female artist who has just come back from representing Solomon Islands in Guam at the Pacific Arts Festival.
Dance and song competitions, a popular favourite, are coming back. There is also a new addition of a BMX competition, with competitors doing a free style on BMX bikes over a three minute track.
It is becoming a new sport for young people around town at the moment along with skating.
“We are hoping that these youths will show their skills and improve, and later be recognized as a sport and get funds to build a recreational park”, says Youth Market officer Daniel Vavataga.
Competitions are as follows; Wednesday 29 June at 2pm for the BMX competition, Thursday 30 June at 2pm for the song competition and Friday 1 July at 1pm for the dance competition.
