GUADALCANAL council of women says it plans to build two market venues for its rural farmers at both ends of the city.
President Greenta Tome told the Solomon Star the organisation is now looking at building these market venues following concerns raised by farmers, mainly women who are selling their produces outside the Honiara central Market.
“We are shame of this; therefore we want to establish two market venues. One at the Alligator Creek, Henderson for farmers from the east side and the other further down White River to serve people from the west side,” Mrs Tome said.
She said that Honiara market is always occupied with people living in Honiara and local women vendors always have problem accessing space to selling their local produce on the right places in the market building.
She added that funding for these avenues have already been secured but they are yet to secure piece land to build the facility.
Mrs Tome said that it is best to establish those venues for women in this province to come out and sell their local produces nicely rather than going and sitting down for the sun outside of Honiara market which is very bad.
She said that they are working closely with the Guadalcanal province and other supporting donors to fulfill the idea.
