A CONTRACT to undertake a major upgrade of Honiara’s water infrastructure has been awarded to Australian-based Joint Venture Contractors Reeves International and CCB Envico, Solomon Water announced on Wednesday.
The SOE held an international call for tenders earlier in the year, and received submissions from local and international companies, with Reeves International and CCB Envicowinning the tender.
Reeves International has been working with Solomon Islands contractors since 1998.
The $22 million upgrade, supported by the Australian government, will see construction of a new pipeline, running from Titinge to East Kola, with a short section in Tasahe to be included as part of the work.
Solomon Water Chairman, Phil Bradford says “The upgrade will improve water supply to Honiara residents.”
“I’m pleased we can progress this very important work. It is an essential upgrade that is required to ensure we can continue to deliver a reliable and consistent water supply to all our customers in Honiara.
“We are grateful for the continued support of the Australian Government, who have made this work possible,” Mr Bradford said.
Australian High Commission Second Secretary, Economics,Tanya Morjanoff said“the project is part of Australia’s support for Solomon Water’s Development Plan, which has lifted the quality and reliability of water provided in Honiara.”
“We’re pleased to support the pipeline, as it will help Solomon Water to provide more Honiara residents with access to high quality, consistent 24 hour water service.”

The work is expected to start in December of this year and will be completed by August 2017.
