DEPUTY Police Commissioner Walter Kola has blamed a flat tyre on an accident he was involved in the early hours of last Friday.
Mr Kola reportedly hit a post outside the Central Police Station in Honiara, damaging the front of the police executive vehicle he was driving.
He said he was the only officer in the car at the time of the accident, and no one else as has been reported in this paper.
“The driver at that time of the accident was me and there was no officer in the car with me,” Mr Kola said.
“I wish to thank you too for introducing the photo of the car with flat tyres because the flat tyres were the cause of the sliding collusion,” he added.
“Depending on the outcome of the technical assessment of the damage, I know for sure the accident was caused by the flat tyres.
“It was very clear there were no damages occurred around the flat tyres which simply indicate that they were not as a result of the accident.
“To say that a junior officer wanted to take responsibility of the accident is to my knowledge false and there is no reason for it as a I assume there was a technical accident caused by the flat tyres,” Mr Kola said.
An officer at the Central Police Station who witnessed the incident said Mr Kola appeared drunk at the time of the accident.
Mr Kola in his written response avoided mentioning the issue of alcohol.
