THE National Referral Hospital (NRH) is reportedly flooded with diarrhea patients. A doctor at the outpatient department said the hospital is jam-packed with diarrhea infected patients.
“Health workers at the outpatient are struggling to cope at the moment with the increasing number.
“A lot of children and adults are affected,” the doctor said.
He said with the already limited number of beds at the hospital, the atmosphere there is unsafe.
“It is always difficult to control relieving. Patient can discharge fluid at anytime and children especially are hard to control.
“Some discharging of fluids were made on the hospital floor and taking into account the fact that some people normally sleeps on the floor, it is a situation we are struggling to control.”
The doctor said poor sanitation and lack of clean water could have been the cause.
“We observed the increase since last week and it continued to increase.”
He warned the public to boil water before drinking.
“I would like to warn people in the city to take precautionary measures. Please boil your drinking water and clean up toilets.
“It’s like we’re dealing with another disaster here at the hospital too.
“Please follow healthy living advices such as washing of hands properly before preparing food and or eating.”
