A former police intelligence officer has questioned the reliability, effectiveness and credibility of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force’s (RSIPF) intelligence network.
This came following Friday night’s riot which the former intelligence officer described as “result of police’s intelligence failure”.
The officer, who asked not to be named, said he was surprised to note that rumours about the riot and burning has been public news two days before the event and yet police fail to prevent it.
“Police has failed miserably. They respond four to five hours late and could not save the shops from the looting and burning.
“Although I praise the tireless efforts of the hard working officers, I must say the event could have been prevented at the first place,” the officer said.
He said police have failed to respond because they have an ineffective intelligence unit.
He added the RSIPF need to pull up their socks otherwise innocent lives and businesses will be the victims of such ineffectiveness.
“Police must be careful because this might get worse. They need to act quickly and pin the front line of these people otherwise this country is expecting something worse,” the former intelligence officer warned.
