The Correctional Service of the Solomon Islands (CSSI) has shown great improvement and major development within its organisation.
This was revealed by the undersecretary of the ministry of police, national security and correctional service during the graduation of new 35 new officers last Friday.
Undersecretary Stephen Maesiola said that there are great developments being witnessed for CSSI.
“Development such as the Gizo correctional facility is progressing well and expected to be completed on time.
“The completion of the accommodations and the refurbished correctional centre at Lata in Temotu province. And the completion of the Kirakira refurbished correctional centre,” he said.
He also noted the progress on the construction of the Naha staff housing.
“The commissioner reported during the executive management team meeting that the executive houses at Naha are 70 percent completed.
“He also reported that there is now a juvenile justice working group formed to look at developing a CSSI juvenile justice policy and to develop a concept paper for the youth justice facility at Tetere Correctional Centre,” he said as reported by the commissioner.
Maesiola revealed that one of the highlights for the first quarter of 2014 was award of the international women’s day award to the CSSI women’s network for promoting gender equality in CSSI.
“This is a significant recognition for an organisation previously dominated by males,” he said.
Maesiola thanked the commissioner and his executive team and donor partners in particular Australian government for working together in ensuring the CSSI continues to develop and grow.
