Green Tourism Solomon Island Ltd made a historically visit to Kobuana Island 5km away from Bonavesta island in Central province Thursday last week where they held discussion with landowning groups.
The discussion was based on a proposed holiday package project formulated by Green Tourism which will include the island.
The visit allowed the officials to take a look around the island.
Kobuana Island is a marine protected area (MPA) owned by a group of family originally from Bonavesta who have the title of the land.
The island is located 10km by boat ride from Bonavesta which was surrounded by pristine reefs and untouched marines and natural resources.
About 15 families permanently resides on the island while most of them were working in Honiara or studying overseas.
A representative from the community Martin Tinoni told the gathering on the island that the island is open for tourism activity.
“We want to turn this island into a tourism hub in the province because everything like snorkelling, diving, bush walking, surfing and village tour are all intact since we venture into MPA few years ago,” Mr Tinoni said.
He also acknowledged the historically visit made by Green Tourism officials which encouraged them to venture into tourism.
Mr Tinoni thanked Green Tourism for the visit to encourage them about potential of Kobuana Island.
Managing director of Green Tourism Michael Tokuru thanked the community for a wonderful hospitality and welcome being given to them.
“Since Green Tourism is first ever tourism firm /organisation to landed on the island I would like to thank you (kobuana community) for such assurance.
“We are here on a mission to see this island since we have plans to include this island into our holiday package. Thank you so much and we would work closely with you as we develop this holiday package for Florida island,” he said.
A coconut plant was planted as a symbol for the historical visit.
