POLICE have yesterday arrested and charged one of the prime suspects and instigators which led to the rioting and looting fortnight ago.
Acting assistant commissioner national capital, Gabriel Manelusi confirmed to the Solomon Star last night that, in police custody awaiting court appearance is flash flood victims coalition taskforce interim chairman Jefferey Leni.
Mr Manelusi said Mr Leni was invited, questioned, subsequently charged and arrested for being a main player in the incident on Friday 16th May which led to looting and burning down of Uncle Alick shop in King George.
“He is now in police custody for further interrogation.”
The police official added another instigator who started the fire with a match has already been arrested and is also in custody.
“So far we have two of the main instigators apart from others who were arrested soon after the incident.”
And Manelusi warned that the hunt is still to arrest other suspects and instigators who played a part in the May 16th rioting and looting.
“Some suspects and robbers are still at large but the hunt is still on for them,” the assistant commissioner for the national capital warned.
He appealed to the public who may have any information of any one who was involved in the riot and looting incident to contact them.
Mr Manelusi last night reiterated the call he issued last week that; “Whoever were instigators of the whole mess you are under police radar.”
Its understood those involved in the incident included some of those disgruntled flood victims residing in the eastern part of the city, who want fair rehabilitation and proper repatriation.
Last week following the incident Mr Leni had denied any involvement of those in the shelters.
He said it could have been the unhappy ones who were already sent back from the shelters.
Yesterday’s arrest came after a lot of work and investigation by the police, Mr Manelusi said.
He assured the public that police is doing all its best to bring those involved to justice.
“I would like to warn people to abide by our laws, as police will continue to investigate and ensure those involve including instigators face justice.”
Mr Manelusi said its important for citizens of this nation to show good some behaviour.
“As the country is going through the process of rebuilding itself, the citizens of this nation should also show some respect and good behavour.
“In the end when such incidents happen, it is costing us and make us suffer,” he said.
