A TAIWANESE doctor has completed his one-week volunteer service at the National Referral Hospital in Honiara and Good Samaritan Hospital, Guadalcanal plains.
Dr John Wei-Chung Lai had worked at Melbourne Hospital for five years.
In the wake of cyclone Ita striking Honiara, more than 10,000 people were affected.
Due to poor sanitation and flood influence, numerous patients came to hospital seeking care and treatment.
The shortage of health related manpower made the situation worse.
Dr John got this information and then told ROC (Taiwan) Embassy in Honiara and Taiwan Health Center he wanted to help.
He took his seven-day off to Honiara on May 16 to conduct his volunteer health services.
He said he wished that through his service he could do a little bit relief and help to those suffering from diseases and illness.
Dr John also said Taiwan friends always come to assist Solomon Islands brothers and sisters in their times of need.
During his stay, he worked with Taiwan Health Centre at diabetic mellitus centre clinic at NRH and Good Samaritan Hospital to take care not only of out-patients but also in-bed patients.
