POLICE have arrested a male suspect from Temotu following a rape incident at the Tasahe area over the weekend.
Police said the suspect allegedly went into the car of the victim and her friend and raped the 18 year old.
The matter was reported to police and following initial investigations arrested the suspect at Karaina settlement at White River, west Honiara.
The suspect was reportedly held in police custody awaiting his court appearance.
Acting police commissioner Juanita Matanga is urging the public to respect each other to avoid such criminal act.
Ms Matanga strongly called on girls to take extra precautionary measures while travelling around and doing their activities.
She warned that there are certain people who are mentality sick and others with evil minds who roam around to cause evil acts and problems to others.
The acting police chief called on the public to be responsible and respect each other for the good of the community.
Meanwhile, she is calling on anyone with further information regarding the incident to come forward to assist police in their investigations.
