POLICE confirmed they arrested three people believed to be behind the looting and burning down of Uncle Alick building during the May 16 rioting, east of Honiara.
Acting police chief Juanita Matanga said the trio were believed to have played major roles in the looting and burning down of the building.
“Investigations into the looting and burning down of uncle Alick shop are continuing. But as of yesterday, three suspects have already been arrested and placed in custody for further interrogation,” Ms Matanga said.
She added that at this stage police will not reveal any more details into the incident otherwise they might release anything that would compromises police investigations.
The acting police chief said whilst investigations are continuing, they need the support of the public to assist police with their investigations.
She said whilst police are grateful for the support members of the public has given police, she must also thanked her hard working officers who continue to display professionalism in their duties.
“Police will continue its operation with high visibility within Honiara in areas of importance to police work and call on our good people to take ownership to support police to maintain peace within our communities,” Ms Matanga said.
She said although weekly crime update records has decreased this week, the public of Honiara must continue to cooperate with police to ensure peace is maintained within the communities.
