Women participants at the five days transformational leadership and character education for peaceful co-existence training at Mendana Hotel last week described it as worthwhile.
The training brought together rural women both from the post-conflicting provinces Malaita and Guadalcanal.
Watson Puiahi founder and director of Ilukim Sustainability Solomon Islands facilitated the week long peace training with other facilitators from other non-government organisations.
The Vois Blong Mere Solomons (VBMS) network from Malaita, Guadalcanal and Honiara brought together community people, government and media officers to attend the training.
The training objectives were to equip and enhance the capacity of local community peace workers with the appropriate knowledge on transformative leadership and peaceful co-existence to encourage flexible engagement in the areas of training, community education, media and advocacy approaches effective and appropriate for Solomon Islands context.
They said that skills and knowledge gained during the workshop will be shared across the country through participants’ network in various work places and communities.
The training which concluded on Friday covered topics like peace, gender, transformational leader, character education, human security and media for communicating peace during the national general election in Solomon Islands.
Ilukim Sustainability Solomon Islands (ISSI) founder Mr Puiahi who is currently working on the trainer of trainer’s peace manual education resource material for peace builders and educator in schools and communities in Solomon Islands acknowledged the continuous support of UNDP through its peace program in Solomon Islands.
About 35 participants participated during the workshop including men and women.
