HONIARA City Council (HCC) is spending $ 5 million in upgrading and maintaining the rubbish dumpsite at Ranadi, East Honiara.
Lord Mayor Andrew Mua highlighted this during the official handing over of $50,000 cheque by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT) to the council yesterday.
He said each year the council normally spends $5m to upgrade and maintain dumpsite where public normally discharge their garbage.
“This money normally goes towards hiring of bulldozer for the maintenance work on the ground and compacting of garbage.”
Mr Mua explained the money came through HCC service grant from the government.
“Work on the site is a challenging job for HCC since rubbish piling happens every day.
“But with the money we continually maintain the dumpsite by hiring contractors and machines to make sure the site is in orderly manner.
“Therefore I thanked the government for continuously supporting the city council by providing money for this important task,” Mr Mua said yesterday.
