The warrant team and the Honiara Magistrates’ Court need to work together to speed up the execution of the warrant of arrests, says a local magistrate.
Principal Magistrate Jim Seuika made this suggestion when the prosecution inform him that his office has now appointed an officer in charge of the warrant team.
Police Prosecutor Tony To’oga said the appointment was made following a meeting on Friday last week.
“As a result, the warrant team are supposed to start work today.
“The officers of the warrant team will begin work on the warrants of arrest as of now,” To’oga said when mentioning a warrant case yesterday.
To’oga said the warrant team will possibly meet with the magistrates before work on the warrant of arrests starts.
Principal Magistrate Jim Seuika said he will set up a time mainly with the warrant team to hear and sort out cases issued with warrant of arrest.
John Mark a Temotu man accused of assaulting his uncle over land dispute at Lungga cross-road, East of Honiara is under a warrant of arrest.
His case and other warrant cases mentioned yesterday will be brought back to court on July 14 and July 17 for the review of the warrants.
Mark used a timber to hit his uncle with and pour hot water from a kettle on his uncle’s body.
His uncle sustains injuries and was taken to the National Referral Hospital for medical treatment.
